THIS PAGE HAS CONTENT WARNINGS. It is intended to be viewed by SACE students and adult students. There is bias shown here, including racism, sexism, homophobia and transphobia, classism and more.
Another example of racial bias is the concept of Australia Day. Many Aboriginal people do not celebrate January 26 as the arrival of Captain Cook, because it was the beginning of colonisation and invasion, and caused the death of their people and traditional way of living, as well as many other horrific things.
Some people say things like "get over it", "it's in the past", "it happened a long time ago". (Those same people often insist on respecting ANZAC day.) They choose not to see that they are insisting people respect the past on ANZAC day, but refusing to respect the past on Australia Day.
In a song called "January 26" by AB Original ft Briggs and Dan Sultan, the singers suggest Australia day can be held on "March 8th" on "your grandma's grave" and suggest disrespectful behaviour like drinking and unsafe driving to show how they feel celebrating Australia Day on January 26th is disrespectful and insensitive to Aboriginal people.
