Verbs (known as "processes" in functional grammar) are doing, speaking, thinking, being or sensing words.
In English, we have two different types of grammar, functional and traditional. Functional grammar looks at how words work and are used in a sentence. Traditional grammar talks about the rules. We need to know about both to be effective (good) English users.
How do you recognise a verb? 1) They are: - doing words (to walk, to run, to relax) - speaking words (to speak, to say, to yell, to shout) - thinking words (to think, to consider, to decide, to believe) - being words (to be, to exist) - sensing words (to hear, to see, to taste, to touch, to listen)
2) Verbs change spelling depending on the participant/ subject (the person or thing doing the action) I walk I am She walks You are He is
3) Processes/ Verbs change spelling depending on the time/tense. Every day I walk Yesterday I walked Now I am walking Tomorrow I will walk
