Observe: My purpose was to write a children's narrative, which was both entertaining but also taught a lesson. Because of the purpose and the audience, young children, I chose a simple linear structure which would be easy for them to understand - orientation, complication, climax, resolution. I also used simple language with lots of descriptive words and some small expanded noun groups, like "big furry dog" and "gave me a slobbery grin". I kept the story short, so they wouldn't get bored, and I made sure to keep it happy and appropriate for kids.
